Ōhākurī Dam is a gravity earth dam with concrete intake and spillway structures. There is a diversion tunnel and the gate for this was refurbished in FY20. At 12km2, Lake Ōhakuri is the largest lake in storage terms on the Waikato River.
The turbines for all for machines were replaced 2011-2014.
We plan to commence a project to upgrade the generators and governors in 2029, and at the completion of the upgrade the total output from the station will increase by an estimated 8MW, increasing the annual output by 25GWh.
